Man Self-Immolates In Front of Israeli Consulate in Boston

On 9/11, Matt Nelson self-immolated in front of the Israeli consulate in Boston. He published a video describing what caused him to engage in such an extreme act of protest, citing the genocide in Palestine and other injustices in the world. He also stated that we are all “slaves to capitalism.”

Nelson is the third person to self-immolate to call attention to Palestine. Aaron Bushnell, a member of the US air force, self-immolated in February 2024 and a woman whose identity is unknown also did so in December 2023.

In the immediate aftermath of his self-immolation, local media in Boston covered the event as having occurred in front of the Four Seasons hotel. The hotel is on the same block as the Israeli consulate. Many have highlighted the media’s continuous failure to report on these acts of protest accurately.

Lebanese Resistance Strikes IDF Base in Safad

The Lebanese res!st@nce group H3zbo!lah has launched a missile attack targeting a Israeli military airbase in Safad city. Videos showed the Iron Dome air defense system attempting to intercept the missiles and Israelis running in panic.

The attack comes in response to continuous Israeli air strikes and shelling inside Lebanon. Israel has assassinated several of the group’s members, including a commander of the Al-Rudwan force.

They have also targeted important military sites including Israeli Unit 8200 with a large number of drones. That attack resulted in significant casualties as six drones managed to hit their targets.

According to Israeli media, since October 8, 2023, H3zbo!lah’s attacks on Israeli military targets have resulted in at least 20 killed. Israel’s military refuses to release official data on the number killed.

Biko Blasts Liberal Anti-Racism

47 years ago today, South African anti-apartheid activist and socialist Steve Biko died alone naked in his prison cell in Pretoria. Although the racist apartheid authorities denied any wrongdoing, claiming Biko had died on hunger strike, an autopsy revealed that Biko had suffered an “extensive brain injury” leading to “acute kidney failure.”

His funeral on September 25, 1977, took five hours and was attended by around 20,000 people. 1994, following the end of apartheid, five police officers appeared before the Truth and Reconciliation Commission requesting amnesty for their involvement in Biko’s death. Although amnesty was refused in 1999, it was decided in 2003 that there was insufficient evidence to prosecute them.

Born in the Eastern Caper in December 1946, Biko was raised in a township and, in 1966, secured a scholarship to study at the University of Natal Medical School. Initially, Biko became active in the moderate Union of South African Students (NUSAS) before founding the all-Black South African Students’ Organization(SASO) before its first president. SASO was based on Black consciousness, encouraging Black people to recognize their dignity and self-worth. As the concept of Black consciousness spread across South African universities, Biko became part of the Black People’s Convention, an umbrella organization for Black consciousness groups, in 1972.

In 1973, Biko and four other members of SASO were banned. This meant that their associations, movements, and public statements were restricted. Biko went underground, was arrested multiple times, and held without trial for months. On 18 August 1977, Biko and his friend Peter Jones were seized at a roadblock and jailed in Port Elizabeth. On September 11, he was driven 1,190 km to a prison hospital in Pretoria, where he tragically died the following day, aged only 30.

Genocidal Israeli Song Played in Berlin Under Police Protection

During a Palestinian protest in the German capital of Berlin, pro-Israel protesters played an Israeli song supporting the genocide. The police protected them. The song contains genocidal statements calling those who say “free Palestine” the sons of “Amalek.” Amalek is a biblical term that became known after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu used it to justify the killing of all Palestinians in Gaza.

The song climbed to the top of the charts in Israel when it was released in November 2023. The lyrics include threats against celebrities like Bella Hadid and Dua Lipa for standing with Palestine, saying their “day will come.”

While German police allow and protect the playing of this genocidal song, they have been cracking down on people protesting the genocide. They have repeatedly brutalized and arrested those doing so. The police has also banned Palestinian symbols, harassing and detaining those who wear kufiyas or shirts with the Palestinian flag.

These attacks from German police are not accidental. Germany is one of the biggest supporters of Israel, sending it hundreds of millions of euros worth of weapons that are used to kill Palestinians. German politicians and media have played a major role in demonizing protesters, feeding into the general rise of right-wing extremism in Germany.

German Liberals Mask Off Moment

German politics is seeing the far-right and “the political center” merging further together. Both sides seem to have quietly settled on the idea that foreigners are the mother of all problems. Katharina Dröge of the Green party, which is part of the governing coalition, took to the floor of the Bundestag to warn of “the poison of Islam,” drawing applause from her colleagues.

After three years of stoking geopolitical fires, the liberal ruling coalition is losing steam and moving ever closer to the xenophobic drumbeat of the Alternative for Germany (AfD), Germany’s ascendant far-right party. The AfD’s numbers are skyrocketing, fueled by anti-migrant rhetoric that is quickly becoming the go-to lingo of the political elite. Meanwhile, the conservative Christian Democratic Union, pretending their own 16-year reign never happened, is now blaming the self-caused crisis on migration.

This week, Chancellor Olaf Scholz oversaw an unprecedented border crackdown. Xenophobia is now the norm in political talk shows, election campaign speeches, and in the Bundestag. The far-right AfD won its first regional election in Tühringen last week, the first time a far-right party has won an election since the Second World War. Right-wing extremist crimes are at a record high. This is Germany’s new normal.

Hindutva Supporters Target Another Mosque in India

Thousands of far-right Hindutva supporters clashed with police in Shimla, India, who are seeking the demolition of a mosque. At the protest, they tore down barricades and threw stones at police while police beat them with batons and used water canons. Several protesters and police were injured and taken to the hospital.

On Wednesday, the public works minister of the Humachal state, Vikramaditya Singh, said that if the commissioner’s court finds the mosque’s construction illegal, it would be demolished. Muslims in India must apply for permits with a government mired in Hindutva, which often rejects their applications due to Islamophobia.

The mosque’s committee has reportedly submitted a memorandum to the Shimla Municipal Corporation saying they will remove parts of the mosque. The mosque’s imam said there was “no pressure” on them to do so and that they want to “stay in peace.”

Islamophobia in India has skyrocketed to new heights in the past 10 years under the leadership of Modi and the BJP. The Indian state has sponsored a policy of illegal demolition of mosques across the country and passed a discriminatory citizenship law that excludes Muslims. According to a report by India Hate Lab, India witnessed an average of two anti-Muslim hate speech events per day in 2023.

Milei Plunges Elderly Into Poverty

Milei’s libertarian government sent the police to repress elderly Argentinians who were protesting against pension cuts yesterday.

Congress has now approved Javier Milei’s veto on any increases in pensions payments for the elderly. This effectively represents a huge real-terms pay cut for retirees as their income has been frozen. Meanwhile, annual inflation reached 236% this month.

The state pension of 234,000 pesos per month has now been devalued to such an extent that it’s worth a mere $179 per month. Access to subsidized medicine for the elderly has also been cut under Milei’s ultra-neoliberal regime.
