They are the bitter fruits of centuries of exploitation, foreign interventions, an apocalyptic 2010 earthquake, decades of dodgy elections and coups, a vicious 29 year father son dictatorship, theft by foreign NGOs, rampant corruption, and a 122 year long debt forced on the country by their former slave-masters.
