Forty-two-year-old Abderrahim Fakir died Sunday after being restrained by police. Police reportedly used pepper spray before handcuffing and binding Fakir’s ankles with zip ties and pinning him to the pavement. Witness video captured Fakir shouting for help before he lost consciousness. Protesters say new legislation in 2025 granted police impunity to act without restraint in neighborhoods like Pilastro, where around 30% of residents are migrant workers.
