He also requested the university to formally rescind his degree. “There’s just no way that I can be associated with SOAS in any shape, form or manner while Haya Adam has been expelled from the university for representing and standing up for the Palestinian people,” says Qureshi. Adam was expelled from SOAS on August 6 for “harassment, abusive behaviour and operational obstruction”. A lead organiser of the SOAS protest encampment, Haya has faced a year-long suspension over her role in pro-Palestine organising and has since faced a series of disciplinary measures. Her case is seen by campaigners as part of a wider crackdown on Palestine solidarity across British universities, where students are increasingly facing surveillance, suspensions, police referrals and threats of expulsion.
