It's pretty much the same formula that the US uses for all color revolution / regime change operations:

  1. Leverage control of legacy media and social media to spread anti-government propaganda
  2. Promote protests
  3. Establish CIA-backed protest leaders from "pro-democracy" and "humanitarian" NGOs (NED, USAID, etc)
  4. Escalate protests into violence using CIA/MI6/Mossad operatives and fascist collaberators
  5. Blame the state for the violence and encourage a violent overthrow of the state
  6. Install the "protest leaders" and fascist collaborators as the new government

It's not even that complex an operation, the CIA has been refining it since the 1950s, beginning with Iran and Indonesia. A good place to start on the subject might be with the book, The Jakarta Method.

The US control over social media / information-space has become the new super-weapon. Facebook for example, is a DARPA project -- a weapon for social control and regime change. The first time it was used to overthrow a government was in the "Arab Spring" which was successful in overthrowing the Egyptian state and installed a pro-US/Israel regime.

The US has successfully done this many times (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_involvement_in_regime_change). It's a massive part of their imperialist strategy.

It's not "mind control". It's information control, political manipulation, and political capture through corruption. It's not a negative reflection on the intelligence of the victims, either. It's very hard to see through the fog when you're a targeted nation. If anything it's a reflection on the weakness of the state in defending itself, its information-space and educating the people to these tactics.
