In October 2025, a football match between Aston Villa and Maccabi Tel Aviv garnered attention after several reports showed the Israeli team's supporters causing havoc in several European cities, leading the West Midlands Police Chief Constable to apply a ban on Maccabi fans attending the game. An inquiry pressed by UK Parliament and Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood resulted in the assessment that the Constable's decision was born out of "confirmation bias" and "understated the risk posed to the Israeli fans if they traveled to the area," said Mahmood.
