Describing Kahane as a holy man who “would have received the Israel Prize”, Vaturi was challenged by centrist members of the Knesset, who stressed that “Kahane was a terrorist”. Kahane was the leader of the Kach movement, which was defined in Israel as a terrorist organisation. He remains a controversial figure across Israeli society, and after being elected to the Knesset in 1984, was boycotted by most Israeli parties, including the Likud. Kahane was murdered in New York in 1990 by El Sayyid Nosair, an American citizen of Egyptian descent. Support stories that matter.
