He added that Iran is prepared to negotiate with the US if it is based on “mutual respect". It comes after US President Donald Trump said the Iranian leadership was seeking talks following his threat to intervene militarily over a crackdown on protests. Iran’s foreign minister has previously accused the United States and Israel of fuelling violence in the ongoing unrest, which he described as a “terrorist war”. He said Tehran had evidence that “terrorists” were being armed and directed to open fire on protesters and security forces in order to increase the death toll.
