The workers, who started their indefinite strike on January 19, locked themselves inside the Manoteras Neighbourhood Association building in the Spanish capital. They say they will continue their lock-in until they have reached a satisfactory agreement with the authorities. Since last November, thousands of Spanish doctors and medical workers have struggled against low pay and understaffing in their sector. Madrid's right-wing regional government and its president, Isabel Diaz Ayuso, made an enemy of much of the medical sector by pushing for the privatization of the health system and opposing the COVID-19 lockdown at the height of the pandemic. The lock-in started a few days after 30,000 health workers protested in the capital in mid-January.
