In an interview with Israel’s Channel 11, the mayor defined Haaretz’s reports as “incitement material”. He had previously expressed his wish to ban the newspaper for “blood libel” against the Israeli army, after Haaretz published an article detailing how Israeli soldiers “deliberately” fired on Palestinian civilians near aid distribution sites. Maayan, who was previously an adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on settlement affairs, has been serving as mayor since 2024.
