<description>An English version of the German communist song "Solidaritätslied". Initially written by Bertolt Brecht and composed by Hanns Eisler between 1929 and 1931, the lyrics were rewritten in 1936 during the Spanish Civil War. This second set of lyrics, on top of being the most well-known of the two today, is also the basis for this English translation by Eric Bentley. It quickly spread in the last months of the Weimar Republic, later being translated into multiple languages and becoming popular within the international communist movement.
