The strike came amid an intensifying round of regional hostilities following major US and Israeli attacks against Iran. In those strikes, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed along with several senior commanders, prompting Iran to launch retaliatory missiles toward Israel and other US targets in the region.
