Groups were seen marching with Palestinian flags to reject the move and condemn any political or diplomatic ties with Israel. Members of the Samaroon tribe are reported to have mobilised in significant numbers in Borama, the capital of Awdal state, which Somalia considers part of its territory. Earlier, Israel announced its recognition of Somaliland as an independent state, sparking condemnation from Somalia’s federal government and many regional and international actors. The move has been widely criticised by Somalia’s government and at least 21 countries across the Arab, African and Islamic world, who reaffirmed Somalia’s territorial integrity.
