The snake is an extremely powerful symbol in Judaism, strongly tied to sex, sinfulness, evil, and surprisingly - the Messiah. According to the Talmud, the snake in the Book of Genesis defiled Eve, basically defiling the entire human race forever and making it sinful. According to the Kabbalah, there's also a good snake, a "serpent of holiness", that can "fix" the defilement caused by the "serpent of impurity". Another important note on that subject, specifically in the "Messianic age" many Jews believe we now live in, is that that in Jewish numerology the words snake and Messiah have the same numeric value. And so the good snake, the "serpent of holiness", is also tied to the long-awaited Messianic redemption of Jews. Rabbi Eliezer Berland, who I recently posted about on Twitter, is a very prominent religious figure, leading an ultra-Orthodox community of many thousands, known for their violence and riotous tendencies. They consider him to be the Messiah. He raped hundreds of women throughout the years, fled prosecution, and eventually got off with a slap on the wrist, and went back to lead his fanatic followers and rape more women. Women would come to Berland for marriage advice, including about intimate matters. His modus operandi, revealed during the investigation, was to tell women he would "fix them". How?
