Lessons from #AssataShakur “How do you organize a community that does not exist?” This is something that I feel people in activist and organizing spaces sometimes forget. Creating change requires more than just taking political action. To truly make a change in our world, we first have to break free from the idea that we are separate from one another. This means finding ways of connecting with each other on a basic human level, remembering our kinship with one another. That could be something as simple as sharing our stories. It could also mean creating spaces where people can celebrate together, grieve together, be together… Anything we can do to help bring people into community with each other. Because how can I fight by your side if I don’t even know who you are? What are you doing to build community in your corner of the world? 🎥 Assata Shakur speaking at the World Youth Festival in Cuba 1997
