He also stated that we are all “slaves to capitalism.” Nelson is the third person to self-immolate to call attention to Palestine. Aaron Bushnell, a member of the US air force, self-immolated in February 2024 and a woman whose identity is unknown also did so in December 2023. In the immediate aftermath of his self-immolation, local media in Boston covered the event as having occurred in front of the Four Seasons hotel. The hotel is on the same block as the Israeli consulate.
