In the midst of the Gaza Solidarity Encampment at George Washington University, organizers from Palestinian Youth Movement and the Party for Socialism and Liberation held a teach-in attended by hundreds of students and community members. The teach-in focused on the history of imperialist backers of the state of Israel since its founding, as well as the role of students, political prisoners, and the spirit of steadfastness in the struggle for a liberated Palestine. The organizers also used the texts of ‘Palestine, Israel and U.S. Empire’ by Richard Becker (co-leading teach-in) and ‘Trinity of Fundamentals’ by Wisam Rafeedie as launching points for the discussion. Both titles are available with 1804 Books. At the time of the teach-in, GWU police had encircled a segment of the camps with barricades, besieging students and not allowing food or water into that segment of the encampment. However by that night, after GW police attempted to arrest a student, the community resisted and prevented the arrest. The energy remained high, and students liberated the besieged segment by deconstructing police barricades that night, reuniting the encampment with the community.
