Radin had returned to Iran with his family when tensions in the country escalated and had told his teachers he expected to resume school in China soon, but the conflict disrupted those plans and communication was cut off. Concerned teachers continued trying to contact the family until his mother was sent word through a friend that they were safe. The family later returned to China, where Radin was welcomed back to the classroom that had been waiting for him.
