Its surface was decorated with gilding. In 1977, it was unearthed from a looted tomb at the Xixia Imperial Tombs. The Xixia Imperial Tombs are a necropolis of the Xixia Dynasty, located in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region of northwest China, and formed from the 11th to 13th centuries.
