The influencers attributed the attack to failure in the West to prevent antisemitism by allowing “untamed free speech”, which they said breeds intolerance and emboldens “political Islam”. One of the influencers, Rauda Altenaji, said that the chant “globalise the intifada” is equal to “calling for genocide,” describing activism for Palestine as “terrorism disguised as morality”. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has previously made such links, having blamed the Australian prime minister’s decision to recognise the state of Palestine as a factor leading to the Bondi Beach attacks.
