PSL organizers, on behalf of tenants, disrupted her party, demanding justice for the tenants! Less than 24 hours after the disruption Mayor PT McKenzie reached out to meet and discuss tenants’ demands. After months of tenants speaking out against the unjust mass evictions, it was the public pressure and embarrassment of the disruption that brought her to the table! What she intended to be a private conversation, we ensured became collective negotiation with tenants. In the coming days, the Mayor Pro Tem has promised to push for money for relocation assistance, to tell the City Manager to not start arresting people staying at the apartment complex past the eviction deadline, and to work on allocating the tens of thousands of dollars that the City is still sitting on that was supposed to already have given to the tenants. McKenzie has promised to bring the tenants’ demands to the full City Council tomorrow. Will we see any real action from the Mayor Pro Tem or just more empty promises from Democrat and Republican politicians while tenants are forced out of their homes? The fight continues!
