Video shows the truck stationary as protesters supporting the anti-government demonstrations in Iran surrounded it from all sides, striking the vehicle and damaging mirrors and windows. The driver then accelerated through the crowd in an apparent attempt to escape, as protesters ran alongside the truck. The driver was later caught at another location, where he was beaten by a group of protesters. Police officers were seen struggling to block the mob and shield the driver from further attacks. The truck carried protest signs referencing Iran and foreign interference, including slogans opposing the Shah and warning the Iranian people against a repeat of the 1953 US and UK-backed coup that overthrew Iran’s democratically elected prime minister Mohammad Mossadegh and reinstated the Shah, shaping decades of repression that followed.
