On Monday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with the extreme-right Israeli government as they unleashed a wave of violence against the Palestinian people. Following the deadliest raid in decades by Israeli troops in the West Bank last week, Blinken made it clear that the $3.8 billion of military aid the United States gives Israel every year is secure. Journalist David Sheen breaks down the meeting and the current situation in Occupied Palestine. On December 2, 2019, Michael Dean went out to buy a birthday cake for his daughter when he was shot in the head at point-blank range and killed by Temple Police Officer Carmen DeCruz following a routine traffic stop. After being charged with manslaughter for Dean’s death, DeCruz is now on trial in Bell County, Texas– a “sundown town.” Civil rights attorney, Lee Merrit joins the show to explain the fight for justice for Michael Dean. From smartphones to electric vehicles, all lithium-ion rechargeable batteries made today require cobalt, a unique mineral that is almost exclusively mined in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Siddharth Kara, author of Cobalt Red: How the Blood of the Congo Powers Our Lives, joins the show to explain the immense toll taken on the people and environment of the Democratic Republic of the Congo by cobalt mining and the numerous layers of multinational supply chains that serve to erode accountability for the absolute exploitation for absolute profit. As Pope Francis arrived in the Democratic Republic of Congo this week, the Congolese military launched counterattacks in its conflict with the Rwandan-backed M23 rebels. The M23 has been attacking and displacing residents of the DRC for over a year, with more than 355,000 Congolese fleeing their homes in 2022 alone. Akilimali Chomachoma, a journalist covering the Democratic Republic of Congo and Central Africa, membership officer in "Blogoma" & volunteer media officer for several Ishango Encounters, explains the reality on the ground in the DRC. Cambridge, Massachusetts police are refusing to name and fire the officers involved with the January 4 killing of 20-year-old Bangladeshi student, Arif Sayed Faisal. Following his death, protestors took to the streets of Boston and interrupted a City Council meeting to demand justice and accountability. Rafeya Raquib, an organizer with the Boston branch of the Party for Socialism and Liberation, explains the demands of the #JusticeforFaisal campaign/ Andrés Arauz, former Ecuadorian central banker and research fellow at the Center for Economic and Policy Research joins the show to discuss how Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) could be the solution to the Global South Debt Crisis. SDRs are a special IMF currency that can be traded for hard currency, providing a much-needed injection of liquidity for countries, without adding to debt burdens. ►Become a Patron: https://www.patreon.com/BreakThroughNews ►Tweet us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/BTnewsroom ►Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/btnewsroom/ ►Follow us on Telegram: https://t.me/btnewsroom ►Follow us on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@btnewsroom #BreakThroughNews
