Campaigners said their decision to take quiet, symbolic action in Oxford Street coincided with the fact that it is the last weekend before Christmas, and that they hoped it would be a "reminder that some more solidarity needs to be shown" as we approach a new year. Campaigns such as these have been gaining momentum over the last month, after human rights organisations reported that at least 94 Palestinian detainees have died in Israeli custody, with many more subjected to torture, rape, and other forms of abuse.
