Dr Hever was born in Jerusalem and grew up there, but is now living in Germany after giving up his Israeli citizenship. He said research shows the emigration wave started in 2020 and then started to accelerate further in 2022, but that most of those who are leaving are Israeli Jews. In comparison, Palestinians born and raised in Palestine are not leaving, which he said is a reflection of the political ideology of ‘sumud’ or steadfast perseverance that Palestinians have to their homeland.
