“Saddam is first, then we’re gonna march throughout the Middle East” In the late 90s, a group called the ‘Project For The New American Century’ published a plan to destabilise the Middle East and overthrow its governments. Two years later some of its key figures, like Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld, became powerful actors inside the White House. Over the next few years, they would manufacture consent for an invasion of Iraq, the toppling of Saddam Hussein under the pretence of weapons of mass destruction, and to replace him with a pro-US and pro-Israeli government. But their plan extended far beyond Iraq, and some of their ideas are still highly influential in US foreign policy today. Watch the full interview with security analyst and author William Hartung on The Big Picture Podcast, available on YouTube and all podcast platforms.
