🚨After Hurricane Helene, the City of Asheville opened an unregulated debris dumping site in the residential neighborhood of Deaverview without consulting any residents whatsoever. It is not only in the middle of a residential area, but directly borders a public housing community. Residents are outraged that their neighborhoods are being deemed a suitable location for a toxic dumping ground. 📣 Last night, community members gathered at city council to speak out against debris dumping in Deaverview. The city has claimed they have halted dumping at the site, but say it could still be reopened. ‼️ Residents are demanding an immediate & permanent end to toxic debris dumping in Deaverview, while calling for accountability to make sure that if the dumping grounds are moved, the city doesn't try to do the same thing to another community.
