Authorities claim the pitch was built without a permit near the separation wall. The Aida Youth Centre, which built and oversees the site, was given seven days to demolish it themselves or face demolition by Israeli forces. Aida Camp was established in 1950 to house around 1,200 Palestinian refugees. Decades later, the same small area remains heavily overcrowded and lacks public recreation spaces making the football pitch essential for the community. In response, the Aida Youth Centre wrote to FIFA, appealing for intervention to prevent the loss of what they describe as a vital community space for the camp’s 5,000 residents. FIFA has yet to respond. Human Rights Watch and the Palestinian Football Association have previously accused FIFA of facilitating violations by funding and recognising Israeli settlement clubs that operate on occupied Palestinian land. Critics note the disparity between FIFA’s decision to suspend Russia in 2022 and its continued inaction regarding Israel. The new demolition date is set for 19 January, 2026.
