British-Palestinian reconstructive surgeon Dr Ghassan Abu Sitta shared how his experience in Gaza and Lebanon differs from wars elsewhere because when at war with Israel, “you are in the frontline by being in a hospital.” Calling the hospital “the most dangerous place”, he added that Israel’s bombing of healthcare infrastructure was not a “side tactic” but part of its “military doctrine”. Dr Abu Sitta was speaking at a screening of the documentary ‘Under Fire: Israel’s war on medics’ produced by Middle East Eye and presented by Hind Hassan. Filming in south Lebanon, Hassan takes a deep dive into Israel’s targeting of healthcare workers and first responders during its war on Lebanon in 2024. Also speaking on the panel were Dr Victoria Rose, another British surgeon who’d served in Gaza during the war, and UK Human Rights Watch Director Yasmine Ahmed.
