Maryam Asleeh, a pregnant Palestinian woman in her final month, spoke through tears as rainwater flooded the tent where she, her husband, and their young children had been sleeping in Gaza's Khan Younis. She said her children woke up shivering, and she carried them through the downpour to a neighbour’s shelter before returning to find water forcing its way in from every direction. Makeshift barriers and dug-out channels offered no protection as the storm soaked everything her family depended on. Other families around her faced the same devastation as heavy rain ripped through the displacement camps. Israel continues to prevent essential supplies from entering Gaza, leaving people without safe shelter, clean water, or a stable food supply, while ongoing destruction makes survival itself uncertain. Only a small fraction of the shelters needed have been allowed in, even though more than a million displaced Palestinians are desperate for the bare minimum of a secure, dry place to sleep.
