Ingram highlighted an alarming surge in the number of newborns weighing under 1 kilogramme and a rise in low-birth-weight infants, adding “that this brutal reality was caused by the conflict and exacerbated by the Israeli aid restrictions, which depleted hospitals and starved and stressed mothers.” She also noted that low birth weight infants were about 20 times more likely to die than infants of normal weight.
