Do not let the world look away.” Palestinian-Iraqi writer and poet Zena Agha read out Hossam Shabat’s final message to open the Palestine Festival of Literature in London on 3 April. Shabat was killed by Israeli forces on 24 March after being targeted in a vehicle in northern Gaza’s Salah al-Din Street. He was a journalist for Al-Jazeera and Drop Site News and one of the few who continued to report from the northern part of the enclave throughout the war. At least 232 journalists have been killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza since October 2023 according to a report by the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs.
