Thousands gathered for the annual protests leading up to the anniversary of the 1973 US-backed Pinochet coup on September 11. The protest, led by relatives of those who suffered under Pinochet’s brutal regime, was a call for justice and accountability. Eyewitnesses say the attacker who fatally stabbed the young protester came from the lines of the Carabineros shouting, “I am a counter-protester.” Two others were injured in the attack, and the assailant is now in custody.
