Local volunteers with the Vote Socialist Campaign submitted more than double the required number of petition signatures for an independent presidential candidate to be placed on the ballot in Georgia. This comes after three months of arduous, grassroots work by dozens of volunteers, backed by thousands of supporters, who gathered 17,404 petition signatures from around Georgia. The challenge against Claudia De la Cruz and other third party candidates were signed by Sachin Varhese, the Democratic Party of Georgia’s General Counsel. This single rich lawyer, with the backing of the Democratic Party machine, is going against the will of over 17,000 people who signed the petition to have Claudia De la Cruz placed on the presidential ballot. However, contrary to the Democratic party’s unfounded claims, these petition signatures, and all the required paperwork, were filed in a timely manner with the Georgia Secretary of State’s office. We therefore assert our legal right to access the ballot, and nothing the Democratic Party does can take this right away.
