On Saturday at the Labour Muslim Network (LMN) conference, speakers and attendees weighed in on whether the government’s shift to recognise Palestine and suspend some arms licences goes far enough. In a panel, Labour MP for Leeds East Richard Burgon said that “widespread sanctions” were key to stop Israel from committing war crimes; and MP for Brent East Dawn Butler spoke with MEE, highlighting that “now that Palestine has been recognised” it was important to rebuild trust and relationships. However LMN National Chair Ali Milani emphasised that “not enough” has been done to prevent atrocities in Gaza, and that the issue remained the “moral question of our time”. He went on to stress that without intervention, the impact on voting in Muslim communities could lead to the Labour Party being “gone for good.”
