Gaza resident Tarek al-Farra explains how both the cost of tents and of cement has reached a level that has made him rely on simple materials like stones and rubble to build a home for his family. “This idea is something we got from our ancestors a long time ago, from the 1940s,” al-Farra said. “We have had to return to our ancestors' ideas to rebuild our homes.” Others are making a small living out of the collection of mud to sell, such as Ibrahim Aram, who says it is the first time they have had to do this in Gaza.
