The version of "We Shall Not Be Moved" sung by the United Farm Workers, a California-based union which was at its height in the 1960s and 1970s before being cracked down on by the federal government. The union was frequently met with police brutality and government meddling, but it still won major labour victories during its heights. This version of a well-known protest song changes the lyrics to ones which reflect the UFW's struggle, such as adding a line about the union's ideals, the desire for fair wages, or adjusting the original line "Just like a tree that's standing by the water," to be about agave, a plant found in Mexico and the southwest United States, reflecting the majority Hispanic makeup of the union. Performer: Los Lobos Year Recorded: 1976 Source: Album "Si Se Puede" Image: Flags of California and the UFW at the César Chávez National Monument in Keene, Kern County, California.
