The mission aims to challenge Israel’s naval blockade and deliver humanitarian aid. Organisers faced delays due to severe storms, and some vessels paused in Sicilian ports while awaiting better conditions before joining the main flotilla. Traore used her voice at the departure to call attention not only to Gaza, but to conflicts in Sudan, the Congo and elsewhere, emphasising that what happens abroad is never far from home.
