Ahmed al-Ahmed, a Muslim fruit shop owner in Sydney, originally from Idlib in northern Syria and a father of two, was shot twice as he charged the attacker, wrestled a rifle from his hands, and pointed it at him as the attacker retreated. Video footage of the moment quickly went viral, showing the unarmed man grappling with the attacker. Authorities and witnesses have credited his actions with preventing an even greater loss of life, as tributes and messages of support continue to pour in across social media.
