For nearly two years, starting in November 2020, war raged in Ethiopia, throughout the regional states of Amhara, Tigray, Afar, and along the border with Eritrea. Ethiopia’s former ruling party, the Tigrayan People’s Liberation Front, launched the war to not only take on their own government but also as a new front in their long-running effort to overthrow the Eritrean government. But little of the international commentary on the Ethiopian war has taken into account the Eritrean perspective, whose involvement was portrayed as “foreign meddling” and whose soldiers were accused of war crimes in the West. For the first time addressing an English-language outlet, Eritrean soldiers were interviewed by BT’s Eugene Puryear where they responded to the allegations. BreakThrough would also like to give special thanks to Team Mezekr Tarik for permission to use some of the footage from their documentary on the Eritrean experience in the conflict, which can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7X8lQ2iseQ Further footage used in our documentary comes from a recent Hidmona Entertainment production, which can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_zD0w9PO8w
