As it happens, it wasn't until his late 60s that he climbed the strange-looking "mountains in hats" just outside his hometown in Shandong Province. Known as Daigu Landforms, these castle-like rock formations are a significant site within the Yimeng Mountains UNESCO Global Geopark and have inspired Li to share their breathtaking beauty with the rest of the world.
