"Østen er rød" (The East is Red) is the Danish version of the Chinese Cultural Revolution anthem of the same name ("东方红"/"Dōngfāng hóng" in Chinese). The Chinese version was written by Li Youyuan (李有源), a farmer from Shaanxi, in 1942, during the Second Sino–Japanese War. The hymn became very popular during the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution and was adopted as a de-facto national anthem of the People's Republic of China. It fell out of use and was repressed in China after the revisionist takeover in the 70s. The Danish version was created by the communist band Røde Mor in 1971, and remastered in 2002. The instrumentals are performed by Jesper Thilo, Lars Trier, and Troels Trier (who also sing it).
