Arguing that “the time has come for significant action”, Kumaran asked why the UK had not done so when any other country would have been met with a response long ago. Kumaran was speaking as Israel’s blockade of aid into Gaza reaches its third month, with 66,000 children suffering from severe malnutrition. Rather than agreeing to let aid in, Israel has instead called up 70,000 reservists as it plans for an invasion that would permanently conquer the strip and force its population into civilian compounds in Rafah. Aid groups have criticised the plan as a violation of humanitarian principles and refused to cooperate.
